When I try to start the game, an update is initiated that tries to install the Battlenet Desktop launcher on my computer, which I most definitely don't want. I had to stop playing Hearthstone months ago just to be able to delete the desktop installation because it was too intrusive and slowed my computer. I can still bypass the launcher and start the game from the executable file, but I would greatly appreciate some advice on how to get the normal WoW launcher updates back and make the desktop installation go away. I read the FAQ, but it contains no hint as to how NOT to install. No idea where that thing is coming from all of a sudden - maybe I hit a wrong button somewhere? Blizzard won't have an answer for you.

YOU ARE REQUIRED TO INSTALL THE B.NET ADWARE. The sole purpose of that bnet launcher is to stick advertising more to your eye because you never pay attention to regular launchers and you only visit their website once a year. So this is punishment:D You should do as nyshae if you want to update your games and play them. Install Bnet Launcher, select to exit when a game launched. PS: I had to correct MALWARE to ADWARE because despite it may consume too much memory in your opinion, that app doesn't cause any trouble like a MALWARE.

Nyshae - has it become mandatory today, then, or am I just unlucky for some reason? I'd rather put off downloading that pain in the backside for as long as I possibly can. Ads are annoying as heck, but I ignore them on principle and would never buy anything from the shop anyhow. I'm more concerned about computer performance and privacy (I don't want to know what my friends are playing when they're not on WoW, and they don't need to know what I'm up to either - I love them dearly, but no!). Thanks for the feedback, all - especially for letting me know about that close-after-launch option. Yeah that crap launcher prevents me from logging on to WoW just as it did when I wanted to try hearthstone, had to delete hearthstone and Bnet to be able to play WoW again.
