New member & first post. Got my '10 S80 (3.2L) back in December with 39k and it has been shifting odd. I've researched the TF-80SC and it seems like what I'm experiencing is the 2-3 flare, but I thought that was resolved with the newer units.
The situtaion is when warmed up, under moderate acceleration it will hesitate a bit at the bottom of a gear then rev up a bit mid way through the pull then upshift a second or so later. It really feels/sounds like the TC slips momentarily. It makes for some wonky acceleration and causes it feel underpowered due to the hesitation. Under heavy or really light acceleration it's barely noticeable. I will be going in for an OC and plan to bring it to their attention, but wanted to get some background first. It never does it when the trans is cold.

My wife owned a 2007 S80 3.2 and the transmission did the exact same thing. I complained twice and the only response from the dealer after they checked it was 'it's within specs', but it scared us. I was sure it would fail AFTER the warranty expired so we got rid of it.
She loved the S80 so we got a T6 that has a different transmission as I understand and it is flawless so far with 41,000 miles. I think I read on this forum the 3.2s have transmission problems. Same transmission actually, though it has different programming for the different engine. Newer programming seems to be a lot better generally. Our XC70 and S80 have the same transmission and engines with very similar HP/torque output and very similar miles on each, yet the XC70 transmission is just a lot better/smarter/faster. Of course, I can always just do better in Geartronic mode myself! They all ultimately use the same 6 speed aisin automatic transmission, regardless of it being the 3.2, 3.0, or 4.4.
First introduced in 2004, Volvo's S60 R used a Haldex all-wheel-drive system mated to a 300 PS (221 kW; 296 hp) / 400 N⋅m (300 lbf⋅ft) inline-5. The 2004–2005 models came with a 6-speed manual transmission, or an available 5-speed automatic which allowed only 258 lb⋅ft (350 N⋅m) torque in 1st and 2nd gears. I've heard about a lot of problems with the 3.2 versions, but never with the 3.0 or the later V8s. In fact, my 08 V8 has nearly 200k and the transmission still operates as new.
It would be interesting to find out why the problems seem to be limited to the 3.2s, especially since the 3.2 engine is the least powerful of the bunch. You'd think that the added strain of the more powerful engines would cause a shorter operating life rather than the opposite.
Not sure, but my guess is the programming. Mine has been flashed with the latest update and right now only exhibits the hesitation in the 3rd gear pull under moderate to firm acceleration at around 2200 rpm.
The two '13s seem to not have the latest update and both have the harsh 4->3 downshift as well as the hesitation. Overall, considering this transmission has been used in a range of vehicles over the past years and it still has the same problems, it seems apparent that it's part mechanically related as well as programming. New vehicles on a lot haven't had time to adapt to a driver or driving style. In fact they may never until bought as they get so many different people test driving them. Hello all.new to the forum. I have a 2012 XC70 T6 with transmission shifting issues but a little different than the '2-3 flare' discussed in this post. My issue is when I pull up to a stop sign, quickly stop and give it gas the transmission clunks into first gear.
